About

I'm Xand Reed. I build efferent, an open-source family of purpose-built agents on Effect.ts: a spec-driven coder, a server-graded math tutor, a gated page builder, and a human-approved social drafter. Smith, the coder, runs in an OpenTUI and SolidJS terminal surface and forges changes under a project-owned quality contract.

The bet behind both the agent and this blog: AI engineering is still engineering. Capabilities should be services with typed errors, provider choice should be runtime state rather than architecture, and deterministic gates should declare when work is done. Everything here is built in public — posts lead with an implementation detail, a failure, or a diff, not a generic checklist.

And no React. Not on the blog, not in the terminal.
